Pamela Staik reports on Florida’s efforts to ensure ELLs are provided with high-quality instruction in their mainstream content classes. “Port Charlotte High School ESOL instructor Barbara Dukor said teachers can use several resources when teaching foreign students, including using language tutors, dictionaries during class, modifying exams and allowing students to come to their ESOL instructor
for additional help.” Ms. Dukor also stressed that the entire school system was working together to ensure success for ELLs. “From the principal, guidance, teachers, staff and even from the county level — their work matters.”
